Workshops for kids and adults of all ages!

I am available to teach workshops on comics, cartooning, or art to kids and adults! I have taught week-long cartooning workshops, as well as single day workshops at art centers, schools, and libraries in VT and beyond.

Some popular workshops include -
One Sheet Comics: Make a small comic book using 1 sheet of paper! Based on the workshop by Beth Hetland.
Comic Jam / Panel Party: All about collaborative comics! Make comics with your friends!
Batman Surprise: An introduction on how the process of most comics are done, including concept, writing, layout, and drawing... but with a twist!
Comics Camp: A week-long workshop that teaches the basics of cartooning, writing for comics, and self-publishing your work. Students leave with an anthology of everyone's finished comics.

I've also taught workshops on self-publishing, bookbinding, printing, character design, and writing and have organized workshops around events like Will Eisner Week, 24 Hour Comic Day, and Free Comic Book Day.

I am local to Burlington, VT and the surrounding area, but can make arrangements to teach in the Upper Valley and Windsor county on occasion. If interested, please reach out to me over at my contact page!

Upcoming Workshops:

Bookbinding Workshop: Make Your Own Sketchbook
Generator Makerspace
July 11 - July 12
6:00-9:00pm
Members: $147.50  |  Non-Members: $160 (includes materials)

Never buy another journal or sketchbook again.  Learn the craft of bookbinding by making your own sketchbook in just two evenings.  Students in this workshop will:

  • Learn different methods of bookbinding, making sample mini books explore styles and techniques
  • Make an exposed-spine, easy-open sketchbook, bound with Coptic stitch.
  • Create a unique book cover out of decorative papers or cloth.

Your handmade book will lay flat when open, making it perfect for sketching, journaling, or doodling.

Teen Cartooning Camp
Helen Day Art Center
July 31-Aug 4
Ages 12-18
9:00am-4:00pm
$325 (member) | $350 (non-member)

*This class is paired with a Street Art workshop for a full day camp.*

Morning: What is street art and how does one take their own idea and place it alongside other images in a public space?  We'll work with stenciling, screen print and painting to create individual art pieces and then collage them collaboratively to a blank wall.  With an eye towards bold imagery, we'll use formal design elements, such as repetition, color, shape, and texture.  Looking at examples of decorated public spaces for inspiration, we will create our own changing 2-D landscape and document the changes along the way.  All materials will be non-toxic.
Afternoon: Do you have what it takes to become a cartoonist? In the afternoon, students will strengthen their cartooning skills through drawing games, speed drawing, and storytelling exercises. Learn how cartooning can be applied to character design, animation, storyboarding, and comics. At the end of the week, students will have a book of comics that they made to take home with them!
