STREET ART AND CARTOONING
July 31-Aug 4
$325 (member) | $350 (non-member)
Morning: What is street art and how does one take their own idea and place it alongside other images in a public space? We'll work with stenciling, screen print and painting to create individual art pieces and then collage them collaboratively to a blank wall. With an eye towards bold imagery, we'll use formal design elements, such as repetition, color, shape, and texture. Looking at examples of decorated public spaces for inspiration, we will create our own changing 2-D landscape and document the changes along the way. All materials will be non-toxic.
Afternoon: Do you have what it takes to become a cartoonist? In the afternoon, students will strengthen their cartooning skills through drawing games, speed drawing, and storytelling exercises. Learn how cartooning can be applied to character design, animation, storyboarding, and comics. At the end of the week, students will have a book of comics that they made to take home with them!
